Eamonn Holmes pays tribute to Ruth’s late sister in bittersweet wedding anniversary post

Eamonn Holmes has taken to Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to Ruth Langsford's late sister as he posted a poignant wedding anniversary message to his wife.

In the vintage photo, This Morning presenting duo Eamonn and Ruth are smiling broadly at the camera while posing in their finery in the grounds of the lavish 19th century Hampshire Hotel, The Elvetham, where they wed in June 2010.

Beside the photograph, 59-year-old Eamonn made sure to remember Ruth’s late sister Julia, who sadly passed away last week. The caption reads, “It was the hottest day of the year, June 26th 2010. We can’t celebrate our anniversary today but we can still remember Julia in the best way, as one of our Bridesmaids, smiling, dancing and singing.”

Ruth, 59, took to social media to break the sad news of her sister’s passing just days ago. Uploading an image in which she can be seen with her arm wrapped round her sibling, Ruth explained that Julia had died after a long battle with illness.

She wrote, “My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.”

Many of Ruth’s friends and fans commented on the post to share their condolences. Coleen Nolan simply wrote, “💔Xxx’, while Kate Thornton said, “Oh Ruth, I’m so sorry to hear that. Thoughts are with you and sending all my love x”.

Just last month Ruth posted a photo of herself with her sister Julia and mum Joan on a day out at a park in Surrey, explaining that they’d had a ‘wonderful visit’. Joan lived not far from Julia in Surrey, with her husband Paul and daughter Katie, 35.

Speaking on Ruth’s loss, a source told The Sun, “Ruth is utterly heartbroken and devastated to have found out her beloved sister Julia has died. She adored Julia. They were very close – speaking all the time on the phone and enjoying girls’ days out.

“Julia had been unwell for quite some time but this has shaken Ruth to the core. Eammon and son Jack are comforting her at home but Ruth is in deep shock. It’s absolutely heartbreaking for the whole family.”
