  • On 4th April the Duchess of Cambridge dazzled at the opening night of a new West End show, 42nd Street, in a gorgeous red lace Marchesa dress.

Catherine attended the event at the Royal Theatre Drury Lane in her capacity as royal patron of the East Anglia Children’s Hospices. The new musical is helping to raise funds for the charity.

The £1,150 dress to attend the show, featured a subtle lace mesh and billowing skirt. The royal also accessorised her look with a pair of matching tassell Kate Spade earrings and co-ordinating maroon heels and clutch bag. You can even grab a pair of the earrings for yourself, for just £88. Buy here from Kate Spade.

After stepping into the event, the Duchess was introduced to a young boy, 12-year-old Ollie Duell from Cambridge, who has used the services of the hospice.

An excited Ollie later spoke about having met the royal, saying, “I feel very good about meeting Kate Middleton. She’s very pretty and I want to talk to her about the hospice and how I like going there. I also want to tell her about Pokémon.”

Apparently, Catherine also asked Ollie about the hospice, and later asked if he’d ever been to the theatre before. The young boy responded, “I said the hospice was fun and I told her I’d never been before so I was excited.”

And it seems if the royal thing doesn’t work out, Catherine could well have a career upon in the London theatre world. The Duchess was invited up on to the Theatre Royal’s stage to receive thanks for attending the event – and even got given a pair of tap shoes, should she ever think of taking up a different career path.

The executive producer of the show, Dr Johnny Hon thanked the guest of honour, saying, “We are delighted to support the nook appeal on the opening night of 42nd Street and we are honoured to be joined by the Duchess of Cambridge.”

Catherine looked excited after being handed the glittering pair of golden tap shoes – let’s hope she knows a few steps!

The Duchess was in the audience at the show which first found fame over on New York’s Broadway, and is fronted by Grammy-award-winning legend Sheena Easton.

Also in attendance at the exciting night out in the capital were Morgan Freeman, Judy Murray, Strictly stars Neil and Katya Jones, Arelene Philips, and Bonnie Langford.
