BBC's Luther Returning For Fifth Season

By Amy Hunt
If you're anything like us, you'll have missed the tense and thrilling BBC drama Luther - starring one of our favourites, Idris Elba - since it came off air in December 2015.
Well, good news - the show is returning for a fifth season!
The crime drama starred Idris as suave detective Luther, and Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan, and ran for four, four-part seasons. The BBC drama was hugely popular, drawing in on average around 8 million viewers a season.
The programme returned briefly in March 2016 for Sport Relief sketch, leaving viewers desperate for the charming detective to return.
The cast and crew plan to start filming the fifth instalment of the detective drama in early 2018 - so we probably won't see it back on our screens until late next year at least.
Idris Elba confirmed the news saying, "Neil, the BBC and I have been talking about a further season and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together.
"I look forward to putting the coat back on."
There were hopes that Luther might come back on the big screen. But it seems that the return of the show to TV is more than enough to keep viewers desperate to see more of Luther happy!
Co-creator and writer Neil Cross also spoke about how he believed the show had unfinished business, and that more of the story needed telling.
He said, "It's a question Idris and I get asked a lot. What happened to John Luther after we last saw him striding unbowed through the streets of his city, his blood red London?
"It can't be over, can it? There's so much we don't know. So much unfinished business. The thing is, we've been asking ourselves the same question.
"In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they'd like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that's what we're going to do. We're going to find out what happens next."
And viewers seem more than pleased at the exciting news, with many tweeting their excitement on social media...
