Inspirational 50+ Women Are Set To Triumph At The Golden Globes

  • Award season will soon be upon us, and it looks as though 2018 is set to be a great year for actresses aged 50 plus.

    Earlier this week, the nominees for the 75th Annual Golden Globes were revealed, and the list was packed with incredible older actresses, many of whom have received their fair share of awards over the years.

    For Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, nominees included Meryl Streep, who is 68, (The Post) and Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

    The Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical nominees included Helen Mirren (The Leisure Seeker) and Judi Dench (Victoria and Abdul) – who recently celebrated her 83rd birthday.

    Better Things actress Pamela Adlon received a nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, while Nicole Kidman’s performance in Big Little Lies featured in Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

    Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, who both starred in Feud: Bette and Joan, were also nominated in this category.

    Laura Dern (Big Little Lies), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Michelle Pfeiffer (The Wizard of Lies) all received nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

    But it doesn’t end there for our list of inspiring 50+ women coming out on top this award season. At this year’s Golden Globes, talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, 63, will also be honoured with the 2018 Cecil B. DeMille Award.

    The prestigious award, selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), is given to someone who has made an “incredible impact on the world of entertainment.”

    HFPA president Meher Tatna said Oprah has been awarded thanks to her celebration of “strong female characters on and off screen, and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades.”

    The 75th Annual Golden Globes is on Monday 8th January 2018. The 2017 Golden Globes aired on E!, but details on where to watch this year’s ceremony are as yet unconfirmed.
