Drop everything because a Broadway musical about Princess Diana is coming to Netflix

Start practising your finest curtsy and get ready for the royal debut of Diana: The Musical. You’ll soon be able to stream the show on a loop once it’s released in the fall but, for now, here’s everything we know about it so far.

• A release date for Diana: The Musical has officially been announced.
• The musical was originally supposed to debut on Broadway, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Right now, Diana: The Musical is set to premiere as a special presentation on Netflix on 1st October. That’s two months before its Broadway debut which, based on US government guidelines, will happen in December.

In a joint statement, the producers of the musical Beth Williams from Grove Entertainment and Frank Marshall and The Araca Group both shared their excitement over the Netflix release.

“The chance to share our show, first with Netflix's global audience, and then welcoming a live audience back on Broadway, is something we've all been dreaming about for more than a year,” the two said. “We could not be more thrilled to finally share both the film and the Broadway musical with the world.”

Diana: The Musical was originally set to bring a royal touch to Broadway in March of 2020 but had to close its doors due to the coronavirus.

The Netflix version was filmed back in 2020 and features the original Broadway cast members including Jeanna de Waal starring as Diana, Roe Hartrampf playing Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles and two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth.

An announcement was also put out on Instagram from the show's official account, letting fans know that tickets for the live show are on sale.

The musical will tell the story of Diana as she is thrust into the royal world and how she navigated her way through it. While it aims to celebrate her life, the show will also touch on the struggles she dealt with being in a loveless marriage before finding her confidence and creating a legacy that is still talked about today.
