THEATRE: The Killing of Sister George

  • Lorraine Conway

Catch Meera Syal walking the boards in this witty comedy

Sister George is a much-loved fictional character in a popular BBC radio soap about English village life. She is played by June Buckridge (Meera Syal), but as the BBC faces cutbacks, troubled June must face the fact that her cherished role is on the verge of being axed. Meanwhile her dysfuctional relationship with child-like partner Alice (played by Elizabeth Cadwallader) is also reaching crisis point. First performed in 1966 this play remains a witty and poignant comedy, and Helen Lederer puts in a star performance as dotty psychic Madame Xenia.
