Delia Smith interview

Cookery writer Delia Smith talks to woman&home about her inspirations...

I have three passions in life: I am passionate about my religious belief, about football – and about food.

I've never seen myself as a wonderful cook, but I do like the communication aspect of what I do. I think people understand that I am trying to help them learn how to cook. When I was learning, I devoured certain cookery books, like the works of Elizabeth David, Robert Carrier and Katie Stewart. But sometimes I felt there was a lot missing.

My perfect weekend would consist of going to a football match that we won. Then coming home and relaxing, and having friends and family over for a fantastic Sunday lunch cooked by Michael. Then reading all the papers. I'm happiest at home.

This is an edited version of Delia's interview. To read the full article, pick up the July issue of woman&home, out now.
