FAQs

Does Waterstones do free delivery?

Yep, you can get free delivery at Waterstones but you have to spend £25 to qualify. If your order is under £25 there is a small delivery charge, it's either £3.99 for 1st class delivery or £2.99 for 2nd class.

Can I collect my Waterstones order in-store?

Absolutely! Just choose your local Waterstones store and, if the book is in stock, it’ll be delivered to the store in as little as two hours, ready for you to pick up and pay on collection. The Click & Collect option is available at every Waterstones store - happy days.

Does Waterstones ship internationally?

Pretty much! Waterstones ships to most countries worldwide, but shipping costs will depend on which region you’re ordering from. All items can be tracked, so you can see how far away your delivery is.

What is Waterstones’ refund policy?

Items bought online can be easily returned to Waterstones using the dispatch note included in the delivery, and sending off the package for free. Alternatively, you can return a purchase bought either online or in-store to any Waterstones bookshop, provided you show the dispatch note or receipt and the item is in perfect condition. Waterstones’ return policy is 60 days from purchase, but if the product is damaged at all or you’ve received an incorrect item, you can exchange or refund the item outside of the 60-day window.

Does Waterstones do student discount?

Absolutely! You can either nab a 10% student discount through UNiDAYS or sign up for a Waterstones Plus Student - meaning you can enjoy the benefits of Waterstones Plus with an extra 5% off when you spend your Plus balance in-store or online.

How do you pre-order from Waterstones?

Pre-orders are a great way to support an upcoming release, especially if it’s from a debut or unknown author. There are lots of books available to pre-order on the Waterstones website, which can be found under the ‘Coming Soon’ tab. Payment will be taken on the day that the book is dispatched (usually the same day it is released), but if the price is even lower by that day, you’ll only be charged for the lower price. !

Hints & tips

Shop the Waterstones sale: As we’ve mentioned, books at Waterstones are often on sale, especially during events such as Black Friday and Cyber Weekend, and in January. As well as books, other items such as games, gifts and notebooks are sometimes discounted by up to 75% in the brand’s sale.

Sign up for Waterstones Plus: You’ll be the first to hear about secret sales, be able to enter prize draws, get book recommendations via email, and earn a ‘Plus Stamp’ with every £10 you spend on books (in-store or online), with ten stamps equalling £10 to spend in a Waterstones store, café or on the website.

Use a Waterstones Gift Card: If you’ve been gifted a Waterstones gift card, these can be used in a physical store or online, and they can be purchased from several retailers such as Boots and Tesco. You don’t have to use a gift card on its own - feel free to pay for some of your purchases with a gift card and the rest with cash or card. However, if you’re using a gift card balance, the purchase won’t convert into Waterstones Plus stamps.

 What to buy from Waterstones

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy: This New York Times bestseller is written by child and teen star Jennette McCurdy, who tells the story of her mom’s controlling and abusive behaviour as she rose to fame and struggled with the pressures that came with it. Despite the heavy subject matter, McCurdy’s memoir is darkly funny, warm and touching - you won’t be able to put it down.

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid:  Soon to be released as a limited series on Amazon, Reid’s most well-known novel is set out in the form of an interview with members of the fictional ‘70s rock band of the title, loosely based on Fleetwood Mac. The story centres around the enigmatic Daisy Jones set firmly in the carefree days of the 1960s and ‘70s and follows the fictional band through the highs and lows that defined their days of fame. The book has achieved astronomical success since its release, and it's not hard to see why after reading just the first page.
