Will Smith's acceptance speech for his SAG Award 2022 is too sweet—see the moment

Last night’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were filled with prizes, surprises, laughs, and… tears. 

When winning an award for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role—Motion Picture for his portrayal of Richard Williams, father to tennis pros Serena and Venus Williams, in King Richard, Will paid tribute to the project while tearing up.

"That may have been one of the greatest moments of my career just now because my name was called for King Richard sitting next to Venus Williams," the 53-year-old actor, who recently celebrated his mother's 85th birthday, said as soon as he took the stage. "Richard Williams is a dreamer like no one you've ever known. He has a power of belief that borders on insanity and sometimes tips over the border, which is absolutely necessary to take something from impossible to possible."

He went on to praise his co-stars on the film. "Aunjanue, you pushed every single day, you demanded authenticity and you did it in such a beautiful and quiet and powerful way," he said to Aunjanue Ellis, who played Richard's wife, Oracene. 

"Saniyya and Demi [...] it was such a great honor for me [...] to walk you around this room, to parent you on this film, to deliver you into this business has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life," Will went on, specifically praising Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, who respectively took on the roles of young Venus and Serena.

The SAG award 2022 winner wrapped up his acceptance speech by jokingly calling out the real Serena and Venus, who were in attendance as well. "Venus, Serena, the Williams family, you entrusted me and our group with your story. You didn't agree to put your name on it until you saw the final cut, I get that," he said jokingly, drawing laughs from the audience. "That's real because we be messing stuff up sometimes! Thank you very much. It was my deepest pleasure to honor your family and tell your story to the world." 

Will’s candid moment wasn’t the only memorable portion of last night’s ceremony. In addition to the various snubs and wins, folks are spending today talking about the iconic Romy and Michele's High School Reunion at the SAG Awards. Actors Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino recreated their memorable looks from the 1997 movie while presenting the award for outstanding ensemble in a comedy series—and the audience loved it.
