Loose Women star Chizzy Akudolu has shared her heartbreak after revealing her "wonderful" mother Maria has died.

The 47-year-old took to social media to announce the news, saying that her mum "suddenly passed away last week".

Sharing a number of images of her beloved mum, Chizzy wrote on Twitter: "My wonderful Mum suddenly passed away last week. As you can imagine it’s been a heartbreaking and confusing time.

"Last night, she was in my dream, laughing coz Bootsy pee’d in my hair... Yep, she’ll always be with us!! Love you always, Maria Chinwe Obosi."

Chizzy also wrote on Instagram: "I never knew my Grandma. She died after giving birth to my Mum. Last week, my Mum finally got to meet her.

"My Mum passed away suddenly during the night. To say that we are devastated is an understatement. Feels like I’ve been kicked in the chest.

"She was a wonderful woman, so generous, nurturing and funny. A grafter. Often working two jobs. Midwife, Nursery Owner and surrogate Mother to many. A show off at times, I see where I get it from...

"My Mum was loved and will be sorely missed. Rest in Perfect Peace, Maria Chinwe Obosi. Gone but never ever will be forgotten."

Chizzy's celebrity friends were quick to offer messages of condolence, with former Strictly Come Dancing star Ola Jordan writing: "So sorry for your loss Chizzy, thinking of you."

Ola's husband James Jordan added: "I am so so sorry for your loss Chizzy..... sending love to you and your family."

While former Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown said: "Oh my lovely I'm so sorry sending so much love to you."

Chizzy later thanked her friends and fans for their kind words, writing: "Just wanna say thank you for all the lovely messages. I got a bit overwhelmed in the end but I really appreciate the love. Stay safe y'all."
