Like many other daughters and sons all over the country, Holly is missing giving her mother a good old hug – and this resonated with many of her fans.

‘Awww that's it me crying again, miss my baby girl ♥️’, one wrote in the comments.

Another wrote, ’Awhh me and your mum share birthdays! It was so hard today haven’t seen my mum since March and not being able to give her a cuddle was so emotional afterwards!! Definitely made me appreciate things a lot more ♥️♥️♥️’

A third also added, ‘It's my mum's 87th birthday today too it's so hard not being able to hug them💖 happy birthday to your mum.’

However, other fans lightened the mood by joking that Holly should ‘trust her instincts’ and cuddle her mother - referencing the controversy around Dominic Cummings’ trip to County Durham (opens in new tab).

Remember that current guidelines allow you to meet one person from outside your household, provided you socially distance at two metres apart and stay outdoors.

The This Morning presenter has previously spoken about the toll lockdown has had on her, including not being able to meet her new niece, who was born just a few weeks ago.

Speaking to a caller who was opening up about the sadness she was experiencing over her parents not being able to see their grandson, Holly said, "I feel your pain, I've got my little niece who I have not met at all.

"I keep looking at her in photos and she's getting bigger and I'm thinking I am never going to get that time back and you miss them so much."
