Coleen Rooney has stayed largely silent regarding Wayne Rooney's infidelities over the years—until now. Speaking in an Amazon Prime documentary about her footballer husband's life, the mum of four addressed the challenges their marriage has faced.
The new documentary about football legend Wayne's life and career, up to this point, is a no-holds-barred examination of his personal and professional highs and lows. Fellow football legends including David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand will also appear in the documentary.
After front-page tabloid coverage claiming Wayne had visited a brothel pops up on the trailer, Coleen said of her husband of 13 years, "I knew groups Wayne was hanging around with."
"Together with alcohol, not good. I forgive him but it wasn’t acceptable," she added.
The Liverpudlian mum of four, who's been with Wayne since they were 16, has become an icon in her own right—as well as a successful businesswoman. She's released successful fitness videos, fronted a clothing campaign for Littlewoods, and written a remarkable seven books. According to reports from The Sun, this has gained her a personal net worth of £13.8M.
Although Coleen has kept relatively tight-lipped regarding her husband's bad behavior throughout the years, she has previously addressed those who might wonder why she puts up with it via her social media accounts.
In a Facebook post in 2017, per the Metro, she said, "a few people are probably thinking I am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it’s something I want to try and work on."
"I know I would be fine on my own, with just me and my children, but I don't want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family because that’s what I want to do."
Despite some people perhaps thinking that staying with her husband shows that he got away with his actions. Coleen continued in her post, "I’m not saying everything is fine and forgotten about, but we are as good as can be at this point, I’m not the type of person to put a show on and say we’re all loved-up….I’m just real."
It remains to be seen how much of their marriage will be examined in the documentary, which is simply titled, Rooney.
