  • As much as we do love her, sometimes Mariah Carey just won’t cut it when it comes to Christmas music. We’ve rounded up the best carol concerts near where you live to help you make the most of the season.

    York Minster, York, Thursday 15th December and Friday 16th December, 7:00pm

    York Minster offers two carol services to kick off the festive season. Both feature the York Minster Choir performing a selection of classical and popular seasonal music and the Yorkshire Volunteers Band leading the audience in carols. The concert will also include two seasonal readings by celebrity readers, who are yet to be revealed. Tickets for the event are priced at £25, £18 and £12 and can be booked via the Box Office.

    Holy Trinity Sloane Square, London, Tuesday 20th December, 7:30pm

    This carol concert will present a variety of festive tunes old and new, and will also include traditional carols – many of which the audience will be able to participate in. During the interval guests will be offered mulled wine and mince pies to get into the spirit of Christmas. Tickets £12-£16.

    Canterbury Cathedral Service For Christmas Carols, Canterbury, Friday 23rd December, 7:30pm- 9pm

    The first of two festive services held at Canterbury Cathedral to celebrate Christmas, doors will open at 6pm and seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

    Westminster Abbey, London, Thursday 15th December, 7:00pm

    The annual Christmas concert featuring a wide selection of festive songs mixed in with some seasonal readings and carols for everyone to participate in. Tickets are free but need to be booked online in advance.

    Christmas With Durham Cathedral Choir, Durham, Saturday 10th December 7:30pm
    A festive concert in a candlelit Cathedral featuring Christmas carols as well as seasonal music. Tickets vary from £8 – £22 ( depending on where you’re seated) and all proceeds will support the music of Durham Cathedral.

    Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Classic Carols, London, Tuesday 20th December, 7:30pm

    The Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Choir perform a variety of traditional Christmas songs at the Royal Albert Hall with a special guest presenter – Alan Titchmarsh. Prices start from £19.

    Wells Cathedral Candlelight Concert, Wells, Tuesday 20th December, 7:00pm – 8:15pm

    The Cathedral choir will perform seasonal music, interspersed with readings in the Cathedral filled with thousands of lit candles. Tickets range from £14 – £26 and proceeds will support the Wells Cathedral Choir as well as the Cathedral itself.

    Christmas Carol Singalong at Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, Friday 23rd December

    Sing your heart out to your favourite festive anthems, this concert features a range of carols and popular Christmas songs. The service will include performances from the Scottish Concert Orchestra and The Consort of Voices Choir. Prices start from £14.

    The Promise Of Christmas Service at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, Saturday 10 December 3pm and 7:30pm

    This service is great for all ages, packed full of festive songs, carols and orchestral pieces for the whole family. The seasonal service will feature the Cambrensis Choir and Orchestra, plus special guest soloist Katy Treharne. Prices start from £13.00.
