It’s been one hell of a year for UK events this year and millions of us have tuned in to watch the big moments live on TV, official figures from the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board reveal.
More than 24 million people – over a third of the entire population of the country – were watching the TV for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics, while more than 20 million watched England play Italy at Euro 2012 and more than 15 million watched the Diamond Jubilee Concert as it happened.
Outside of our major national events and sporting contests, Britain’s Got Talent was the biggest entertainment show, attracting an audience of 13.1 million, with Coronation Street, The Voice, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor also making it into the top 20 most popular TV programmes for the year.
So what have been your stand-out TV moments for the year? What did you love to watch? And were there any programmes you wish you hadn’t wasted time watching? We’d love to know your TV turn-offs too! Tell us in the comments box below or join the debate in our forums now.
