The Duchess Shows Her Perfect Manners

  • At some point growing up we’ve all been told to mind our Ps and Qs, and it seems that the Duchess paid close attention to her early lessons in good manners, and know when and how to say thank you graciously.

Rather than simply send out an all-inclusive tweet/ Facebook status update/ whatsapp message (as many of us might have done) Catherine went analogue and posted out thank you cards to those who wished her well on her 35th birthday last month.

The Duchess sent out a thoughtful note, to those who had taken the trouble to send her birthday cards and gifts in the post. The message has been hailed by etiquette experts as a perfect example of a thank you letter, being neither too short or too long. We feel we should take note!

So what does a Royal thank you look like? Written in the third person, the message read:
‘The Duchess of Cambridge was touched that you took the trouble to write as you did on the occasion of her birthday. It really was most thoughtful of you and Her Royal Highness sends you her warmest thanks and best wishes.’

It is not known how many of these cards were posted – along with a photo of the Duchess that was taken during last year’s the official Royal tour of Canada – in a crisp white envelope bearing the Kensington Palace seal, but it’s believed that the Duchess’ thank yous are being sent to everyone that sent her birthday wishes.

A picture of the card was posted on an Instagram feed by @lettersroyal, which shows a whole series of grateful and warm wishes from royalty all over the world. Is it time to bring back the art of letter writing? We’d certainly consider it if it meant correspondence from the Royal Family!
