On one of this week’s episodes of It Takes Two, Strictly‘s spin-off show, viewers tuned in to find regular host Zoe Ball replaced by former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones.
It was then revealed that Zoe had actually been taken ill with a stomach bug, and that 39-year-old Gethin was just filling in for Zoe while she recovered at home.
On the show, Gethin spoke to a few Strictly contestants including Mollie King, Davood Ghadami, and Alexandra Burke, and even showed off his own dance moves in a hilarious demonstration with former pro dancer Ian Waite.
Viewers appeared delighted by the funny display and his interview skills, with many taking to Twitter to say that he’d done a brilliant job taking over the programme in Zoe’s absence.
Viewers were more than happy with Zoe’s temporary replacement, with many of them calling for the show to carve out a permanent presenting slot for Gethin.
One fan even suggested that Gethin and Zoe could share the main job presenting the spin-off show.
Another wrote, “Can we have Gethin permanently please?!!”
While a third viewer asked if there would ever be a guest presenting slot available for Gethin on the show…
In fact, Gethin actually has a history of Strictly appearances. He regularly presents the behind-the-scenes segments on It Takes Two, and also took part in the show as a celebrity contestant back in 2007 – although he failed to lift the coveted Glitterball trophy, eventually coming third.
However, whilst viewers were enthused by Gethin’s presenting skills and humorous approach to the programme, loyal fans mostly agreed that they couldn’t wait to see long-time presenter Zoe Ball back.
One fan wrote to Zoe on Twitter to say, “Gethin did well but not the same without you Zoe, get well soon.”
While another viewer said that they were looking forward to having Zoe back in her presenting role.
Other fans wished the 46-year-old well, following the news that she’d soon be back to present the show.
Zoe has confirmed that she’ll be back to present this evening’s episode, Thursday 16th November.
