Good news for fans of TV's Richard Madeley could be on the horizon, with rumours circulating that the presenter may be joining ITV breakfast show Good Morning Britain for good.
Reports have suggested that the media veteran is in talks with ITV to secure a more permanent spot on the show, given how popular he’s proven with viewers after several guest stints.
According to a source speaking to The Sun, “Richard polls really well with viewers, and also garners a big social media response whenever he’s on.
“Both ITV and Richard are keen for him to become a regular member of the GMB family,” they said.
They continued, “He’ll be Piers Morgan’s regular stand-in during his fairly regular holidays, and do one day every couple of weeks. Viewers love how renegade Richard is.”
Richard is yet to confirm the news, but it’s undeniable that Judy Finnegan’s husband certainly goes down a storm whenever he appears on the breakfast show.
Ratings have boosted by 12% on GMB over the past year, where Richard has filled in for Piers Morgan various times.
Fans have also praised Richard following his appearances, with one writing, ‘Love him brilliant presenter!’
And another agreed, saying, ‘Love him’.
Richard Madeley recently won praise after he shut down an interview with politician Gavin Williamson, after Gavin refused to answer a question.
Gavin failed to provide an answer, after Richard asked a question three times, leading the presenter to simply declare, “interview terminated”
He also added that it would be “helpful if you answered a straight question with a straight answer.”
Viewers flocked to social media to laud the straight-forward response from Richard. One fan said, ‘Well done @richardm56 for shutting down his interview with Gavin Williamson on @GMB…Good to see some fire from a presenter!’
While another fan responded to the interview by saying, ‘More of this please…..👍’
ITV have since commented on the speculation, saying “GMB love having Richard on to fill for Piers or Ben but there are no current plans for him to have a regular slot.”
However, despite the statement, Richard’s addition could still happen further along the line. We’re sure fans are keeping their fingers crossed!
Whether or not the rumours are true, fans are likely to still see Richard filling in on a regular basis for Piers Morgan.
So fear not – even if he doesn’t bag a permanent slot on GMB, he’ll still likely be a regular fixture on our TV screens.
