Former Coronation Street star and current Holby City actor John Michie has announced the devastating news of the death of his 25-year-old daughter at Bestival, a musical festival which took place over the weekend 8th – 10th September.
His daughter, Louella Michie, was found dead at the annual musical festival at Lulworth Castle in Dorset at 1am on 11th September, the same day she was due to celebrate her 25th birthday.
A 28-year-old man said to be Louella’s boyfriend has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of her body, but the circumstances of her devastating death are not yet clear.
Reportedly, the man is being held in order to allow police to “establish the full cirumstances” surrounding her passing.
Despite the arrest, 60-year-old John has appeared to maintain that the tragic event was not a murder. In a statement to The Sun, he said, “We’ve lost our angel. It’s not murder – they were friends. It was just a tragic mistake, a tragic accident. This was not a murder. They were girlfriend and boyfriend.”
“She touched so many lives. She was so very positive, so bright, so out there. She had such energy. The tributes to her have been incredible.”
Details won’t be confirmed until a post-mortem takes place, with results expected to be released on 12th September.
Reportedly, Louella’s boyfriend relayed the horrific scene to her parents over WhatsApp, prompting the couple to make the 130-mile dash from their home in North London to the festival.
Prior to the horrific event, John and Louella had posted a series of now-poignant pictures to their social media. The photos show the then 24-year-old preparing for, and at, the musical festival.
One picture, posted by dad John on 7th September, showed Louella intently sewing together a costume for the weekend event, which he captioned “Sewing for Bestival 👌”
Shocked fans flocked to the actors social media page to deliver heartfelt messages of condolences, with one writing “I can’t imagine what you must be going through right now. Heartbroken for you 😢”, while another said, “Heaven gains yet another Angel too soon. So sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Louella ❤️🙏”
And most recently, John appears to have posted a tragic photo of Louella’s bedroom after her death, taken on 11th September.
The picture shows a white guitar and mirrors hanging up on the wall, alongside a desk adorned with a vase of flowers and candles.
Fans once again were quick to send their messages of support to the actor, with one user writing “So sorry, John. Thinking of you and sending love to you and Carol.”
Louella herself had also posted updates on her time at the festival to her social media, to which devastating friends have also posted messages of disbelief following the news.
One wrote,” Tears in my eyes typing this foreal.. RIP Louella you was lovely I can’t believe it ♥️ happy birthday ♥️”
John and his wife Carol shared three children, including Louella, together. John starred in long-running soap Coronation Street for just over two years between 2011-2013, as the popular character of Karl Munro, who was married to Michelle Collins’ Stella Price.
After leaving the cobbles, John headed to the world of hospital dramas, taking on the part of Guy Self on Holby City and Casualty, which he is currently starring in.
