Wedding season is fast approaching and for those of us with golden envelopes, it's time to start fretting about our outfits. When you're mother of the bride or groom, it brings with it another level of responsibility and your outfit has to be exactly right, as those of you who have shared this special day with your son or daughter will know. Now imagine being a mother of a celebrity bride or groom, with the world watching. These mothers of the happy couple carried the role off with the upmost elegance...

When Andy Murray married artist girlfriend Kim Sears in his hometown Dunblane, mother of the groom Judi Murray attended the day looking as graceful as ever. She opted for an elegant knee length cream coat which she subtly contrasted with beige shoes, bag and dress. Her statement hat added the final touch.

Our Queen is particularly adept at choosing appropriate outfits for the occasion. When Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey in 1986, Queen Elizabeth II wore this pretty powder blue dress which she accessorised with eye catching pearls and white gloves.

Another royal affair at Westminster Abbey and this time HRH Prince William married our much loved style icon Catherine Middleton. When mother of the bride Carole Middleton stepped out in this lovely pale blue ensemble, no one was left wondering where Kate gets her fashion sense. Carole is said to have started the 'Carole Middleton effect', inspiring mothers of the bride nationwide to add glamour to the role.

In keeping with the pale blue trend, Jamie Oliver's mum, Sally Oliver chose this stylish two piece when her son married former model Jules.

When Tom Parker-Bowles married fashion writer Sara Buys in 2005, he had a rather royal congregation with stepfather Prince Charles and step-brothers Prince William and Harry in attendance. Camilla Parker-Bowles looked the part with this pretty head dress and tastefully embellished jacket.

Hillary Clinton wore a custom made Oscar de la Renta dress to her daughter, Chelsea Clinton's New York wedding.

Lily Allen's Mum Sarah Owen was a vision of pretty pattern and tasteful colour when she attended her daughter's wedding to Sam Cooper in 2011. On the same day as their marriage, Lily announced her pregnancy, making Sarah a proud grandma-to-be.
