This iconic ’80s show had it all – sex, lies and social climbing, revolving around the gloriously over-the-top trials and tribulations of two rich families, fighting for control in the same neighbourhood.
Dame Joan Colins starred as Alexis Carrington, debuting the big hair and shoulder pads that became the epitome of ’80s fashion. But while we thought that this show was resigned to the Golden Age of soap operas, it’s been revealed that there’s going to be a modern revamp of the ’80s classic.
The new remake, directed by the creative minds behind Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Sallie Patrick, will focus on the future generations of the Carringtons and the Colbys.
The series was originally created by Richard and Esther Shapiro and produced by Aaron Spelling and ran from 1981 to 1989. Dame Joan Collins, John Forsythe, Heather Locklear and Linda Evans were all part of the original soap crew. And while the new team will be the executive producers, the original creators are also involved writing the series.
The news series description says: “In an age where dynasties appear everywhere – from reality TV to the polling booths – this epic drama features the one percent in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.” So it seems a Dynasty remake is more relevant than ever.
So what do we know so far about the new series of Dynasty?
The show will premiere exclusively on internet streaming service Netflix, meaning we’ll be able to re-watch our favourite episodes as often as we want.
According to Deadline, the decisions means that the episodes are also likely to air in the UK just 24 hours after they do in the US!
Elizabeth Gillies will star in the reboot according to the American television network CW. Elizabeth will play Fallon Carrington who is the daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington and her soon-to-be step mum Cristal who is played by Nathalie Kelly. Cristal is described as a “Hispanic woman marrying into a WASP [White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant] family and America’s most powerful class”.
The series will primarily be told through the perspective of Fallon and Cristal, who are constantly at odds. Elizabeth will be joined by Grant Show and Alan Dale, who starred in Neighbours and The O.C.

Judging from the aboive, viewers should definitely expect to see some of the 80s glitz and glamour that helped make the original show so popular.
Last week Joan Collins, who played Alexis Carrington during the second season of Dynasty shared a throwback of her on the show.
She was the ex-wife of Blake Carrington and Joan was nominated six times for a Golden Globe Award for the role. She won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama in 1983, the same year she was nominated for an Emmy as Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Last year it was revealed that Joan and Stephanie Beacham had discussed how to bring back their characters. Will the new series of Dynasty have a place for the return of Joan and Stephanie? We hope so!
The show is expected to ait in the US on 11th October, so there’s a bit of a wait for it yet.
