Naomi Campbell, Matthew McConaughey and other celebrities react to Texas school shooting - 'We cannot accept these tragic realities as the status quo'
Several celebrities have taken to social media to share their reaction to yesterday's deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas
A number of celebrities, including Naomi Campbell and Matthew McConaughey, have taken to social media to share their reaction to the deadly Texas school shooting that took place on Tuesday.
The horrific massacre has prompted an outpouring of devastation and outrage from both public and private figures across the world, as well as impassioned demands for tighter gun control measures in the US.
At least 21 people, including 19 children and two adults, were murdered at Robbs Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, yesterday morning after being fatally shot by Salvador Ramos. The 18-year-old suspected perpetrator, who also shot his grandmother before trespassing into the school, was killed by police at the scene.
Matthew McConaughey, who is originally from Uvalde, has now called for immediate action on gun control in light of the horrifying tragedy.
"As Americans, it's time we re-evaluate, and re-negotiate, our wants from our needs," the 52-year-old wrote in an impassioned statement on Twitter. "This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better."
He then urged "every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror" and ask themselves "what small sacrifices" they are willing to make to "preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighbourhood.
"We cannot exhale once again, make excuses and accept these tragic realities as the status quo."

"To those who dropped off their loved ones today not knowing it was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we’ll keep them coming,” he added.
Naomi Campbell also shared her reaction, reposting the statement published by supermodel friend Linda Evangelista on her Instagram story: "Let's take a moment to honor the sacrifice of our brave school children for laying down their lives to protect our right to bear arms."

These sentiments were echoed by Taylor Swift, who made a rare statement on her Twitter to address the incident.
"Filled with rage and grief, and so broken by the murders in Uvalde," the Evermore singer wrote. "By Buffalo, Laguna Woods and so many others. By the ways in which we, as a nation, have become conditioned to unfathomable and unbearable heartbreak." She also retweeted the video of US basketball coach Steve Kerr desperately pleading for improved gun control, adding that his words "ring so true and cut so deep."
First Lady Jill Biden also took to Instagram and Twitter to post a short but strong message, writing, "Lord, enough. Little children and their teacher. Stunned. Angry. Heartbroken."
