Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover have announced they are remaking the rom-com spy classic, 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'.
The pair announced on Friday they'd be reuniting to work together on the remake of 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'. The reboot will be in a TV series format for Amazon Prime and is set to be released in 2022.
Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be playing the main characters of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and have also co-produced the series with Francesca Sloane (Fargo, Atlanta). Phoebe and Donald both have roots in comedy as Phoebe worked on both 'Killing Eve' and 'Fleabag' and Donald was on the long-running TV comedy 'Community.' They also both starred in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' and have been close pals since this project.

I JUST THINK THAT DONALD GLOVER AND PHOEBE WALLER-BRIDGE’S FRIENDSHIP- pic.twitter.com/jwPxZeYFddFebruary 13, 2021
The original 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' film starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as assassins who hid their secret identity from one another, only to discover that they are both spies who have been assigned to kill one another. It's unclear if the new series will follow the exact same plot as the film, but we'd love to see the stars in this action-packed rom-com.
Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, told E!News, "Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It's truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team."
She continued, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith is an iconic property, and we can't wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own." Jennifer then took to Instagram to promote the new television show by reposting Donald Glover’s Instagram story announcement about the project. In the video Phoebe and Donald both partake in TikTok trends and then announced the project.

Fans are also extremely excited to see the two stars reunited again. One fan wrote, “not to be dramatic but Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover working together again is the best thing that has ever happened to me.” Another fan stated, “DONALD GLOVER AND PHOEBE WALLER BRIDGE, I WON, I HAVE ACTUALLY WON.” To be honest, I think we've all won with this announcement!
