The Crown producer has spoken out about the future of the show.

Executive producer of the royal-based Netflix hit has spoken about whether the show is ever likely to see the appearance of characters based on Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle.

Yesterday evening saw the royal couple make the shock announcement that would be ‘stepping back’ from the royal family.

Taking to their Instagram page, the Duke and Duchess wrote in a statement, ‘After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

‘We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen’.

And since the startling news came out, The Crown fans have naturally been crying out for the explosive events to unravel in a dramatic storyline for the TV show.

But it seems that creators of the hit have other ideas, with one of the show’s producers dashing fans’ hopes for a Sussex-inspired plotline.

"To be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we'll ever go as far into the present day," executive producer Suzanne Mackie told PA, disappointing fans everywhere.

The Netfix hit follows the royal family from the time when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned back in 1952.

The current series, which is the third for the TV show, portrays events that took place between 1964 and 1977, while the next series will cover the 1980s.

However, Suzanne has said that they don’t think they will go too much further into the future, saying, "I think we'll probably - we won't travel into the present day."

The show’s creator Peter Morgan reiterated this back in 2018, when he informed Entertainment Weekly that the don’t ever plan on including Duchess Meghan in the show as it would be “too close to the moment”.

He added, "I feel uncomfortable writing about events within a certain time period”.
