Loose Women host Andrea McLean has bravely confessed that she suffered a mental breakdown last year.
The Scottish telly star and her fellow Loose Women panellists, Brenda Edwards, Nadia Sawalha and Coleen Nolan, returned to our screens today for the first time in six weeks.
The ITV chat show was pulled off air for over a month amid the coronavirus pandemic but made a comeback today, with social distancing measures being implemented on set.
As the Loose ladies reflected on the global health crisis, Andrea admitted that she would have struggled much more if Covid-19 had struck the world last year.
“If this had happened a year ago I would have been in trouble.
“Last year, I was in a really dark place. I had a breakdown last year, which is something I haven’t necessarily spoken about, but I did.”
Explaining that she had therapy in order to help her get through the dark time, the mother-of-two said, “If it had happened then it would have been horrendous, but I worked on myself so hard and I had so much help and so much support that actually when it happened, we’d already starting calming our life down.
“I was in a really great place mentally [at the beginning of lockdown], I’d had therapy, so actually I was quite chilled.”
In light of Loose Women’s return to our TVs, loads of fans took to social media to celebrate.
While tuning into the episode, in which the gang were sat two meters apart from each other, with Coleen joining in via video link, one fan Tweeted, ‘Andrea, Brenda and Nadia on the panel with Coleen dialling in from home is an absolutely solid line-up for Loose Women’s first episode back, it’s so nice to see them all again.’
‘I cant wait I have missed my daily fix of Loose Women....its not the same looking at the old ones that you was showing seeing I have already seen them,’ added another.
Speaking on how important it is for the Loose Women panel to be honest about their mental struggles during this time, Loose Women editor Sally Shelford said, “At Loose Women we have made it our mission to stop the stigma and start a conversation about mental health, covering issues from postnatal depression to anxiety and addiction.
“With many of our viewers struggling with lockdown, speaking openly and honestly about mental health worries to offer comfort and advice has never felt more important.”
