  • We’ve had everything from classic to rustic. But it’s a return to colour for our homes this year because, according to the interiors experts at, pastel shades are back.

Predicted to be a top trend for 2018, sherbet and candy colours like powder pink, cool mint, lemon chiffon, lavender and delphinium blue are finding their way into interior schemes.

To celebrate the launch of their new website,, editor Suzanne Imre talks us through these new statement shades which are set to make a big impact on homes this year.

“A great look for summer, this trend takes it cue from the catwalk where soft silk palazzo pants and satin bomber jackets were all the rage,” she explains.

The trend is a fresh twist on seasonal pastels, and works well when one is stacked on top of another – like a triple-scoop cone. Think gelato-hued dining chairs in pistachio and peach, or creamy pinks accent cushions.

“For the home, translate the look into pale pink cocktail chairs, mint green sofas or aqua blue bedlinen,” Suzanne suggests. These muted tones add a sense of calm and simplicity to a space, while also bringing in a gentle pop of colour.

“The colours work beautifully together – as long as they are of the same depth and tone – or will look fresh and modern mixed with white.”

Sorbet shades work beautifully with geometric prints – the contrast between modern graphic lines and soft and subtle colour creates a fresh and modern feel.

Make a real style statement by choosing one large hero piece like a headboard or sofa upholstered in a sorbet shade. To avoid it looking too girly, pick pistachio or powder blue. Or go for a burst of lemon chiffon to lift a living space and usher in the spring.
