The rumours were true! Ruth Langsford Strictly shock announcement surprised fans on This Morning today...
After years of turning down offers from BBC producers, Ruth Langsford has finally been convinced to take part in Strictly Come Dancing!
Ruth, 57, will be swapping interviewing celebrities for sequins as she takes to the dance-floor in the hit BBC show this autumn.
The This Morning presenter revealed the exciting news live on the daytime show, appearing behind a door after keeping fans waiting for almost the entire episode.
Ruth appeared behind the door looking thrilled and was beaming as husband Eamonn Holmes and the team behind the scenes at 'This Morning' cheered her on.
"Darling, I'm very pleased for you" Eamonn gushed.
"You have to be there every Saturday!" Ruth told Eamonn, grinning.
Chatting about how long she'd had to keep the new from everyone, Ruth admitted, "I'm very relieved because I've had to keep this a secret for so long. Now it's out there - no going back now!
But she also confessed that it's a dream come true for her, saying "I'm very excited. I've said every year 'Oh I'd love to do it' I'm the oldest so far!"
The busy TV presenter also admitted her fears about making time for training saying, "Lots of the time I'll need to do half days, but some days I can do a whole day."
And in an official statement to the BBC, she said, "I have dreamt about doing Strictly for so long, I can't quite believe my dream has come true!
"The sum of my dance experience is throwing a few shapes at a party, I've never had a dance lesson in my life. Without doubt it will be the scariest yet most exciting thing I've ever done. It'll be a welcome change worrying about my next hot move instead of my next hot flush!"
Before the Ruth Langsford Strictly announcement this morning, a source told the MailOnline: "Ruth has always been a big fan of the show, and producers are thrilled that she has changed her mind and will be taking part this year.
"Eamonn is really excited about cheering her on."
Last year, the Loose Women panelist and This Morning host revealed that she "might do" Strictly if she was asked.
The BBC have announced two other stars that are officially signed up for Strictly Come Dancing 2017. So far, singer Mollie King and Eastenders star Davood Ghadami will also be joining Ruth on the dancefloor.
This year's Strictly will also see a new judge joining the panel, replacing former head judge Len Goodman. Professional dancer Shirley Ballas joins the panel this year, and according to Craig Revel Horwood, competition between the judges will be just as heated as between the contestants on the dance floor!
The official start date for Strictly 2017 hasn't been confirmed yet, but it will likely follow the pattern of previous years, returning to our screens at the end of September.
