Exhibition: Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton

by Sarah Allen on Thursday, 5 April 2012

In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, a stunning collection of some of the Royal Family's finest photographs is touring the UK.

Currently showcasing at the V&A in London are 100 photographs of the Queen, taken at key moments, such as landmark birthdays, the Coronation in 1953, and the birth of Prince Charles in 1948.

Each picture is beautifully captured by fashion photographer - and legend in his own right - Cecil Beaton. This exhibition shows the role Beaton played in shaping the image of the monarch. Photographs that have never been seen before are on display, along with Beaton's diaries and letters.

At the V&A until 22 April (vam.ac.uk) before touring to Leeds City Museum (8 May to 24 June, leeds.gov.uk), Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery (7 July to 30 September, museums.norfolk.gov.uk), and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle (13 October to 2 December, twmuseums.org.uk).
