FILM: Black Swan

by Katy Balls on Friday, 21 January 2011

Natalie Portman plays prima ballerina Nina Sayers, who wins the lead role in her dance company's production of Swan Lake. But, while she is perfectly suited to the role of the White Swan, she struggles to embody the dark side of Black Swan. And her strife only worsens when she finds herself threatened by a new ballerina, eager to steal the position.

As Nina becomes obsessed with her own professional perfection, the lines between what's real and what's in her head become blurred. Portman gives an award-winning portrayal of Nina's descent into madness (she won Best Actress at the Golden Globes) and is supported by equally emotive performances by Winona Ryder, Mila Kunis, and Vincent Cassel.

A dramatic psychological thriller that combines a powerful storyline with authentic dancing and stunning costumes, Black Swan is a film that will stay in your memory long after the action has ended.
