- Her Majesty's reign has now set a new record as she becomes the second longest-reigning monarch.

The Queen surpasses other monarchs across the globe as she celebrates 70 years and 127 days on the British throne. This milestone, which Her Majesty reached on Monday, June 13, 2022, has surpassed the previous monarch to hold the title, Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand who died in 2016 after reigning for 70 years and 126 days.
This is an exciting milestone for the Queen as she is now the second longest-reigning monarch ever and is only just behind Louis XIV of France who reigned for 72 years and 110 days before his death in 1715.
While the Queen may still have a way to go before she becomes the longest-reigning monarch in the world, she has been the longest-reigning British monarch for some time. Queen Victoria ruled for 63 years and 216 days before her death in 1901. This means that as of September 2015, the Queen has been the longest British monarch in history.
The Queen's reign began in 1952 when her father, King George VI, died at the age of 56. At the time, Princess Elizabeth was just 25 years old, but became the next Queen of the British throne and stepped up to begin what would be the longest reign seen in Britain. The Queen's coronation took place in 1953, a year after her father's death, but her official reign began in 1952.
Fans love this dedication from Her Majesty, and many have taken to social media to congratulate the Queen on this impressive milestone.
"Today, Our Majesty the Queen becomes the 2nd longest Reigning Monarch in the World! She is History in the Making indeed. I hope she is enjoying it by kicking her feet up, a cuppa in hand and a warm marmalade sandwich," said one fan referencing the Queen's Paddington video that was released during the Jubilee celebrations.

"Today, Queen Elizabeth II becomes the 2nd longest reigning monarch ever. Less than 2 years until she takes the top spot, if she makes it," said another fan who was hoping that her Majesty will make it to May 2024 when she will be the longest-reigning monarch in history.
