Crystal Gwizdala

Crystal Gwizdala is a freelance science journalist with a focus on health. She also works as the assistant editor at Catalyst Midland and ghostwrites for medical professionals. She has bylines in The Xylom, The Detroit Free Press, Route Bay City, Epicenter Mt. Pleasant, Midland Daily News, and Catalyst Midland.

Science helps us understand ourselves. But if you can’t understand the science, what use is it? That’s what drew Crystal to science communication—making science accessible to all. Also, how cool is it to learn from scientists every day?

Before Crystal discovered her passion for journalism, she earned a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in psychology. She then studied journalism and technical writing at Delta College, and now studies science writing at Johns Hopkins University.

During her time at The Delta Collegiate, Crystal received several awards for her work, including a student journalist of the year award. She was awarded for her personality profile about a firecracker drag queen, a health column about how healthy eating is not expensive, an infographic about the flu, as well as feature photography and news photography.

Crystal lives with her goblin/cat Grenzo in the Great Lakes Bay Region in Michigan, USA. When she’s not writing, eating, or sleeping on the floor, you can find her trekking through the woods or rambling on about some hypothetical trip she has planned.
