How The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Spend Their Wedding Anniversaries

We all remember the royal wedding of William and Catherine in April 2011. On a surprisingly summery day, pretty much the entire population of the UK took to either their TV screens, the Mall, or a street party, to witness the marriage of the most beloved royal couple around.

And, on 29th April, the Duke and Duchess will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary, and six whole years of wedded bliss. We know, we can’t quite believe it’s been that long either! But, it has, and now the Duke and Duchess aren’t just two, but have of course been joined by the adorable Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

But while we don’t yet know how the Duke and Duchess are celebrating this year’s anniversary, how have they gone about commemorating the previous five?

Well, it seems that their wedding anniversary celebrations perfectly sum up just how normal their lives really are…

Fifth – 2016

The Cambridge’s were a family of four on their fifth wedding anniversary, and were reported to have spent the day privately with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The couple had only just returned from a royal tour of India, where they went without their children.

But the couple did release this adorable picture to well-wishers to commemorate the occasion…

Fourth – 2015

The couple’s fourth wedding anniversary was spent more than a little differently to previous ones – given that she was six days overdue with Princess Charlotte!

The Duchess took it easy in the very final stages of her pregnancy, swimming in the private Buckingham Palace pool with Prince George, who at the time, she was teaching to swim. On the day, Catherine also appeared to still be pretty comfortable, driving herself to the palace. William was also at the palace with his wife and son, while they awaited the arrival of their fourth family member.

Third – 2014

This time around, the Duke and Duchess had the adorable Prince George with them to celebrate their special day – who, at the time was only six months old. But the couple and their son were probably relaxing at home on the anniversary, having only recently returned from their tour of New Zealand and Australia. At the time, the Duchess did say that it took poor little George three days to get over all of the travelling!

Second – 2013

Sadly, the couple were forced to spend their second anniversary apart, given that William was working with the Royal Air Force. So instead, Catherine headed out on royal duties, visiting a children’s hospice in Hampshire. However, the couple did celebrate with an intimate London dinner a few nights before.

First – 2012

The couple marked their various first anniversary of marital life with a decidedly less extravagant affair than that of their actual wedding.

The night before, the couple had attended the wedding of Catherine’s childhood friend, Hannah Gillingham, and the couple stayed in local pub The Crown in Westleton, Suffolk – where they of course woke up on their first anniversary.

The couple reportedly joined the rest of the wedding party for bacon and eggs in the dining room, before driving back to Anglesey, where they lived at the time. Apparently, Catherine made a sweet gesture for her husband on the day, cooking fish en papillote – ‘fish in paper’, for their dinner, to mark the first anniversary gift traditionally being paper.
