How are Prince Harry and Prince William acting towards one another? This royal expert shares his thoughts

The brothers' relationship has been highly scrutinized

Prince Harry and Prince William were the main topic of conversation leading up to their grandfather's funeral. Despite turmoil between the royal family—and the fact that Prince Harry had not been seen publicly with relatives since March 2020—the brothers appeared to be at ease with one another during Prince Philip's services.

• Many were skeptical how Prince Harry and Prince William would react to one another after seeing each other, presumably for the first time since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all with Oprah.

• A royal expert revealed to People exclusively that their camaraderie appeared to be business as usual, despite over a year of tension.

• In other royal news, the Queen has spoken out for the first time since Prince Philip's passing.

Perhaps tensions are easing?

Royal expert Robert Lacey spoke exclusively to People to share observations about Prince Harry and Prince William's interaction at the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral, noting that the brothers appeared to have "drifted to each other like the old days."

Onlookers were skeptical how things would play out: the two ended up not walking side-by-side, which raised eyebrows, though this apparently was not a cause for concern according to the Queen. Then, it appeared that Kate Middleton acted as a buffer between the brothers. Despite it all, they did interact and even reunited with their father, Prince Charles, following the funeral.

Other royal experts have a different take. Some say reconciliation will not be in the cards until Meghan Markle is back in the equation. Although the Duchess of Sussex was unable to attend Prince Philip's funeral, as she was not permitted to fly at this stage of her pregnancy, she did honor her husband's grandfather with a sentimental gesture

Time will tell how things proceed, but here's hoping that the brothers get back on track.
