6 Jo Loves perfumes our team swears by for an expensive impression - for under £80
Offering both affordable price tags and luxury blends, here's why our beauty team is fully on board the Jo Loves train...
With all the tells of a luxury scent but minus the more premium price point, these Jo Loves perfumes were made for those who want to smell expensive, without actually costing the earth to do so...
When it comes to selecting one of the best long-lasting perfumes, it's a common misconception that price equates to quality. While there are, of course, iconic and high-end brands whose signature fragrances are worth every penny, there are also a plethora of best cheap perfumes and mid-range scents that smell deceptively expensive, without treading into three-digit territory. One such brand is Jo Loves, whose chic and infinitely sophisticated blends have become one of the worst-kept scent secrets amongst woman&home's beauty team.
So, if you're in the market for a new, everyday scent or perhaps a transitional season fragrance, these are the six, underrated Jo Loves perfumes we cannot stop recommending...
The 6 niche and underrated Jo Loves scents that we also *love*
Why you can trust Woman & Home
Founded by Jo Malone CBE, the creator of Jo Malone London - whose in-house scents are not only counted among the best perfumes for women - Jo Loves offers a lineup of elegant and minimalistic scents that are infinitely wearable. And these are the six, specifically, that our beauty experts adore...
Zesty and warm
RRP: £115 for 100ml | Notes: patchouli, lime, mandarin, amber, cedarwood, bergamot and suede
This warm and earthy blend is a favourite of Digital Beauty Editor, Aleesha Badkar, who - despite being a devout fan of Baccarat Rouge 540 - adores this scent as an alternative for its unique and nuanced aroma. She describes this fragrance as warm and smooth, with a touch of zestiness (thanks to the opening notes of lime) and a 'zing of tart bergamot,' which all culminate in a "truly elegant scent, that makes a sophisticated impression - with just a dash of sweetness for pleasure."
Who should buy it: those who like to stand out from the crowd by way of individualistic signatures.
Green and earthy
RRP: £40 (and comes with a refill!) | Notes: truffle, fig, citrus and pine
Whilst also available in classic liquid formats, Jo Loves also offers its hero fragrances in refillable paintbrush applicators, which allow you to paint the perfume (which comes in a gel) directly onto the skin. Digital Beauty Writer, Naomi Jamieson uses the scent Red Truffle 21 and loves both the convenience and aroma: "Red Truffle is seriously addictive, it smells so fresh and green but with this underlying hint of earthy warmth. It's subtle but modern and makes me feel so sophisticated whenever I wear it. The paintbrush also makes topping up my scent on the go so easy and the texture is similar to that of a perfume oil - which really helps the notes cling to my skin."
Who should buy it: those who avoid florals and overly sweet scents and are instead looking for something contemporary and natural-smelling.
Perfectly summery
RRP: £78 for 50ml | Notes: pomelo, vetiver, grapefruit and patchouli
This scent is a summer signature for Beauty Writer, Annie Milroy, who describes it as: "Bursting with the delicious notes of juicy pomelo and grapefruit, this scent embodies everything that we all love about summer and sunny climes. A gorgeous everyday fragrance, I wear this religiously from March to September as it's uplifting, energising and totally mood boosting. Utterly moreish, once you wear you'll never want to be without it!"
Who should buy it: those whose scent collection is missing a chic, transitional perfume that is perfect for summer and beyond.
Sparkling and fresh
RRP: £78 for 50ml | Notes: grapefruit, orange, lime, spearmint, vetiver, guaiac wood, cedarwood and black pepper
Fresh and vibrant, Jo by Jo Loves is the definition of a summer scent, or so says Naomi anyway: "Every spritz just sparkles with juiciness," she quips, before adding, "the opening is so invigorating, with notes of grapefruit, bitter orange and tangy lime coming to the forefront followed by cool spearmint. This burst of freshness is then slowly grounded by woody notes of guaiac wood, cedarwood and spicy black pepper. It's modern and such a versatile every day for both spring and summer."
Who should buy it: Those looking for a mature and sophisticated fruity perfume, that leans more into citrusy freshness as opposed to sweetness.
Green and layerable
RRP: £78 for 50ml | Notes: lime, mango and black pepper
This scent is also available to buy in a duo with Jo By Jo Loves, as they can both be worn separately or layered - for a multi-faceted and seriously citrusy impression. As the name suggests, Mango Thai Lime is another fresh number that is as juicy as it is green. "It smells like a summer spent sipping on ice-cold mojitos, staring at the ocean and it dries down to a green, citrus scent that is so fresh and tangy," says Naomi, who recommends this for those who avoid gourmand or floral perfumes.
Who should buy it: Anyone who prefers their perfumes to have very green notes and sharp hints of citrus.
Warm and spicy
RRP: £78 for 50ml | Notes: pink peppercorn, cardamom, juniper berries, amber, vetiver, cumin, ginger and nutmeg
For those who prefer warm and spicy aromas, Pink Vetiver needs to be on your list. It features notes of distinctive pink pepper, laced with cardamom, amber and earthy vetiver, as well as cumin, ginger and nutmeg. It's the perfect unisex fragrance and is so versatile, lending itself to both day and nighttime wear.
Who should buy it: lovers of warm and skin-like signatures.
It's also worth noting that many of the Jo Loves scents are available in body lotion, shower gel and bath cologne variations - which are ideal for perfume layering - as well as candles and of course, the famous fragrance paintbrush.
