With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ties officially cut from their royal roles in the UK, royal experts have claimed that their bombshell interview with Oprah is being done to raise their profile in the US.
More from Woman&Home:
The couple have already recorded a 90 minute sit-down chat with Oprah, which will be aired on 7th March – the same day the Queen will address the nation to commemorate Commonwealth Day.
Their decision to spill the beans on their departure from the royal family in such a public forum has raised eyebrows in the past few weeks.
And now royal biographer Robert Jobson has revealed he thinks it’s all part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to raise their profile in the US – where they recently settled in their Santa Barbara home and announced they are expecting their second child.
Speaking on True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat podcast, Robert said, “Let’s be clear, the reason they are doing Oprah is to boost their brand and get as much attention as possible because that is the power of the buck.
“The reason they are talking about their private life is because they need to make sure their brand is high and highly visible in America.”
Is he correct? We'll have to wait, watch and see what they say to find out!
Meghan and Harry made the decision to step down as senior royals last March, and the agreement was finalised last week, when the Queen stripped them of all their remaining patronages.
Her Majesty paid tribute to the couple in a sweet statement, and said, “Following conversations with the Duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the royal family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.
“The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by the Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of the royal family.
“While all are saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”
Meghan and Harry have vowed to continue their life of public service and support the causes and charities to which they grew close throughout their royal life.
