Ella Emhoff is the step-daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris and has rocketed to fame in the past couple of weeks, but who is she?
Ella Emhoff became extremely popular following her fashionable appearance at the Biden-Harris inauguration in January, as she watched her step-mother become vice president.
Ella, who wore an embellished Miu Miu coat and Batsheva dress, spoke about her inauguration outfit to Vogue. She said that she planned her outfit for weeks and, “this momentous of an event deserves a momentous outfit.”

Cole Emhoff and Ella Emhoff
IMG Models signed poet Amanda Gorman as a model soon after performing her original poem at the Biden-Harris inauguration. A few days after this announcement, IMG Models revealed that they had signed Ella Emhoff too. Other models represented by the agency include supermodels such as Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid, and Gisele Bündchen.
The president of IMG Models revealed that Ella’s personality attracted the modeling agency to sign her. “It’s not really about shape, size, or gender anymore,” said Ivan Bart, “Ella communicates this moment in time. There’s a cheekiness and a joy she exudes.”
He revealed that he thought, “wow, she’s communicating fashion,” when he saw her look at the inauguration — the appearance that encouraged the agency to sign her.
Ella is currently a senior at Parsons School of Design in New York, where she studies fine arts, focusing on textiles. She is worlds away from the previous children who have been in the limelight because of their parent’s position in the White House.

Kamala Harris is step-mother to Ella and Cole Emhoff, her husband Doug’s children from his marriage to American film producer Kerstin Emhoff. The vice president and the second gentleman married in 2014 following Doug’s divorce in 2009. Kamala posted an adorable photo of her family on Instagram and wrote that she was “Grateful every day to be Momala to Ella and Cole.”
Ella Emhoff’s life in the limelight has just started but doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
