The Duchess of Sussex announced in late July that she will be launching a fashion line with retailers Marks & Spencer, John Lewis & Partners, Jigsaw and designer Misha Nonoo. And her stylish collection has finally dropped online today!
Duchess Meghan has worked with the selection of British retailers and designers to create a five-piece, workwear capsule collection, in collaboration with the charity Smart Works – of which she is patron.
Smart Works help prepare women who have been out of the workforce for a while with all the tools needed to get back into employment, in part by helping them curate a professional wardrobe which they may not otherwise have access to.
And this collection will help by ensuring that for every item bought by a customer, the same will be given to another women visiting Smart Works – giving the public a chance to be a part of their journey to professional success.
The charity clothing collection aims to be as inclusive as possible with sizes ranging from 6-24. Though, you better hurry, as it’s only available to purchase for two weeks.
The Smart Set Capsule Collection was officially launched this afternoon at an even Meghan herself attended, wearing two of the items from the range – the Misha Nonoo shirt, and Jigsaw trousers. Royal reporters confirmed that she would also be wearing the rest of the collection during hers and Prince Harry’s tour of South Africa later this year.
Which items can you buy in Meghan’s Smart Set Capsule Collection?
The Smart Set Dress, Marks & Spencer, £19.50
Marks and Spencer website has unveiled a ‘Smart Set’ crepe shift dress for £19.50, available in three fabulous colours – pink, blue and black.
The product description says, “This versatile, Smart Set Dress will quickly become a staple in your autumn wardrobe – and it’s a perfect choice all year round too. Cut from crepe that handily doesn’t require ironing, the shift shape flatters your figure with its clean and simple lines.”
The Duchess of Sussex added a sweet note which reads, “‘Not a handout, a hand held’ – HRH The Duchess of Sussex, Patron of Smart Works.”
The chic shift dress is super affordable, and for us is perfect all year round – be it an everyday work item or post-work dinner with friends. It’s also available in a petite version, and doesn’t require any ironing, handily.
At the moment, all colours are still on sale in all sizes, but we reckon that won’t last for long, so hurry if you want to bag one for yourself!
And, fans have been loving it so far with one reviewing the product online, ‘I like that the cut is generous in all the places that matter eg the hip and bottom area. I particularly love love love the detail around the neckline it pretty and bold and feminine all at once.’
The Smart Set Bag, John Lewis, £109
Fans can also get their hands on a leather The Smart Set tote available in black or tan that can be bought online at John Lewis for £109.
The product description reads, “The generously sized bag has an open-top design with plenty of room to fit whatever you need to get you through the working day. There is a large slip pocket on the exterior of the bag, while inside, the fully lined interior benefits from two phone-sized slip pockets, one card slot and a zipped pocket so that you can keep your valuables organised and to hand.”
We reckon this tote bag is an ultimate everyday bag and with plenty of room for your essentials. It’s large and lightweight, and can be worn as both a tote or a hands-free cross-body bag.
At the moment, the bag is sold out online following this morning’s launch, but John Lewis confirmed to w&h that a restock is, excitingly, coming very soon! They also revealed that the bags are still very much available in store, so it’s worth checking your local ASAP.
A spokesperson said, “The first release of the Smart Set Tote has sold out online, with a second release coming shortly. However we have plenty of stock in our shops across the country.’
“Customers can also download the app to check which stores have availability.”
The Smart Set Shirt, Misha Nonoo, £125
This sleek and simple white shirt is available to buy at www.mishanonoo.com and fits perfectly under the Smart Set suit. This classic blouse is one of our favourites from the collection. Everyone needs a white shirt in their wardrobe as it goes with almost anything.
Misha Nonoo, the designer, and a personal friend of Meghan’s, commented on why she became involved with the project. She said, “Creating this capsule collection alongside The Duchess of Sussex, Smart Works, John Lewis & Partners, M&S and Jigsaw, has been an incredible experience. Empowering women has always been my goal as a designer and I was thrilled our brand could support so many women’s professional pursuits in this special partnership.”
The Smart Set Blazer, Jigsaw, £199
A black classic blazer in an ultimate statement in anyones wardrobe. The Smart Set Blazer buttons neatly in at the waist to give you an hourglass figure. A well-fitted blazer can make the most casual outfit look put together even if you’re just sporting a pair of trainers. It’s a classic workwear piece but can also be dressed up for a smarter elegant evening look too.
The Smart Set Trouser, Jigsaw, £120
These Smart Set Trousers are slim-fitted and tapered – an ultimate steal and a perfect addition to your work wardrobe.
They’ll go with almost anything too – be it the matching blazer, a blouse, or a jumper, as the chillier winter months set in…
Both the trousers and jacket are also available in navy too.
Speaking about her first clothing collection and collaboration with Smart Works charity, the Duchess of Sussex explained that she was “excited” for the launch, before thanking all the brands involved.
Meghan said, “Since moving to the UK, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact.
“I am excited to celebrate the launch of another initiative of women supporting women, and communities working together for the greater good. When you buy any item in the Smart Set Capsule Collection for Smart Works, the same item will be given to a Smart Works client, and with it, the confidence and support she needs to enter the workforce and take an important step in building a career.
“Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project – placing purpose over profit and community over competition.”
