Prince William and Kate Middleton were married on the 29th April 2011 meaning that this year they are celebrating 10 years. The couple was married at Westminster Abbey in a glorious wedding ceremony that was also–to the delight of the nation–a national bank holiday.

Kate looked stunning on the day in an Alexander McQueen wedding dress and the nation celebrated as she became a member of the Royal Family. To mark the momentous occasion a BBC documentary that will look back at the highlights of this royal celebration will air on Friday 30th April, the day after the couple’s anniversary,

How will the Couple celebrate their 10th anniversary?

As of the 12th April, shops and outdoor restaurants are now open in the UK, so the royal couple now has the option to dine al fresco if they choose to enjoy a meal together on their special day. This means that the couple will be able to visit one of the various country pubs loved by the royals.

However, it seems far more likely that the pair will opt to stay inside and have a home-cooked meal, as they have typically chosen to do on their previous wedding anniversaries.

A royal expert and author of the book Prince Philip Revealed, Ingrid Seward, told Entertainment Daily, “I suspect they will so what most working couples will do, they’ll probably go out for a celebration or have a celebration at home.”

She continued to say, “I would think that they’ll just have a private celebration at home. They’ll probably be inviting friends, they can do that.”

What will William give Kate for their 10th Anniversary?

The typical gift for a ten-year anniversary is tin. Tin symbolizes the strength of a relationship to reach this milestone and the durability to continue for much longer.

The typical gemstone to celebrate this event is a diamond, so perhaps to celebrate William and Kate's wedding anniversary, the Duchess of Cambridge might be getting a lovely piece of jewelry from her husband.

How have the couple spent their previous anniversaries?

For their first wedding anniversary, the couple exchanged paper gifts. According to reports from Hello the Duke and Duchess had a very low key celebration at home where Kate made William, fish en papillote – fish wrapped in parchment paper – as a sweet nod to the traditional first wedding anniversary gift of paper.

For their last wedding anniversary in 2020, the couple were still under the UK's lockdown restrictions but shared a throwback photo of their wedding nine years prior. The post said, “Nine years ago today – thank you for all your lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding anniversary!”

The couple has also had other notable wedding anniversaries and Kate has even celebrated some of them while heavily pregnant. Princess Charlotte was born on 2nd May 2015, meaning that the Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her fourth wedding anniversary while just three days away from giving birth. The traditional gift for a fourth wedding anniversary is typically fruit, flowers, or linen, but a newborn daughter is really going above and beyond.

The royals recently visited Westminster Abbey and Kate Middleton chose to wear her hair in the same lovely style as her wedding day, a touching reminder of the significance of the Abbey for both Prince William and Kate.

Happy anniversary to William and Kate–we hope you have a lovely day!
