Kate Middleton altered her Top Gun 2 premiere gown, as it's revealed the original Rouland Mouret dress features a sheer back.

Duchess by day, fashion icon by night, and fans wait with bated breath to see which of Kate Middleton's dresses she'll wear to red carpet events. Although the royal tends to choose ready-to-wear, it's clear that this fashionista has autonomy over her look because Kate Middleton altered her gown for the film premiere in question.

Kate Middleton oozed French chic at Top Gun 2 premiere, with a strapless Roland Mouret dress and £10k drop earrings. The figure-hugging, strapless, black and white dress was styled with simple black pumps and jewelry to die for.

Despite the gown being from a ready-to-wear label, eagle-eyed fashion fans noticed that the original dress features sheer, mesh panels at the back.

Some believe the decision was made to make the dress less revealing - but it's not only the dress that's had an edit, as Kate Middleton's glossy hair was left loose around her shoulders, in a super sleek straight look. This isn't the first time we've seen Kate Middleton's Cher-inspired hair, which she appears to be loving as opposed to her usual Chelsea blow-dry.

The Duchess certainly stole the show at the premiere, but Prince William’s surprising shoe choice at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere also drew a lot of attention.

One Twitter fan said, "All eyes on Kate as usual but spare a minute to admire the start of the evening…. Ladies and gentlemen - Williams shoes just won the red carpet tonight!! #topgun #fanboy"

Prince William's black velvet slip-on loafers, reportedly from Crockett & Jones, had planes embroidered on them in a tribute to the film - but some also believe they're a sweet nod to his late grandfather Prince Philip.
