Prince William and Kate to carry out their most romantic royal engagement yet
Prince William and Kate are taking a trip down memory lane as they head to their old stomping grounds
Prince William and Kate Middleton have a royal engagement at a location that is very dear to both of their hearts—the place where they met twenty years ago.
• The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are heading to Scotland.
• The royal couple will visit the location where they first met two decades ago.
• In other royal news, Prince Charles expresses regret over handshake rejection on Northern Ireland tour.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are beginning a tour of Scotland on Friday 21st May 2021. The royal couple will take part in many royal engagements, including making a visit to a specific location that is very special to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Prince William and Duchess Kate will visit St Andrew’s University, the university they both studied at when they first met and fell in love. The couple both studied Art History at St Andrew's but William later changed his course and studied Geography.
The Duke and Duchess met while in the same halls of residence, St Salvator's Hall, at St Andrew's. After becoming friends in 2001, they didn’t start dating until a couple of years later.
A friend of William and Kate’s from university, Laura Warshauer, told People, “When we'd be sitting at lunch in the dining hall and the two of them would be talking, it was amazing to see how natural it was, how they had so much to say to each other.”
She continued, “Looking back, there were all these small moments—certainly moments where I was like, ‘Wow, this could really be something’.” The couple have now known each other for 20 years and Prince William and Kate have just celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary.

Prince William and Kate have a variety of other engagements to attend to when they're in Scotland. Among other duties, the royal couple will greet fishermen in Fife, watch the Scottish Cup final with emergency responders at a rooftop bar, and welcome NHS staff to a drive-in cinema at the Palace of Holyroodhouse so they can watch Emma Stone’s new film Cruella.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said, “The duke is honoured to be fulfilling the role of Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland this year.”
He went on to say, “Both he and the duchess are very much looking forward to spending time in Scotland, hearing from a wide range of people on the issues they care about, and celebrating individuals who have gone above and beyond to support their communities over the past year.”
