• The Duke of Edinburgh had an adorable nickname for the Queen.
• Now that the Duke has passed, the nickname will no longer be used by members of the Royal family.
• In other Royal news, The Queen carried these sentimental items in her handbag at Prince Philip’s funeral
The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral took place on Saturday 17th April 2021, after the Duke passed on Friday 9th April 2021. Hello reported that the Duke was the final living member of the Royal family to affectionately call the Queen by a sweet childhood nickname.
Hello reported, “As royal photographer Arthur Edwards points out in his moving piece about covering Prince Philip's funeral, he was the last of the royals to call Her Majesty by her childhood nickname.”
As a child, the Queen struggled to say her name ‘Elizabeth’ and instead would pronounce her name as ‘Lilibet.’ This lead to her family affectionately referring to the Queen as ‘Lilibet.’ Even the Queen’s father King George VI was once quoted stating about his daughters, “Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy."

The Queen’s grandparents also referred to her as ‘Lilibet.’ In a letter to her grandmother, Queen Mary, the Queen wrote, “Darling Granny. Thank you very much for the lovely doll's house. I do love it, and I have unpacked the dining room and the hall. Love from Lilibet xxx."
Since the passing of both of her parents, the Queen mother and her father, King George VI, her sister, Princess Margaret, and now her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen will no longer be referred to as Lilibet. However, the Royal family do affectionately call the Queen other nicknames such as 'Gan-Gan' and 'Granny.'
It was reported that at Prince Philip’s funeral, the Queen left a handwritten letter on his coffin. It was reported that she signed this farewell letter from ‘Lilibet’ as a last affectionate goodbye. Written on the Queen’s stationery, it was speculated that although most of the words were unintelligible, the Queen did write “I love you,” in the note.
