Buckingham Palace is expected to respond today to allegations of racism after Prince Harry and Meghan alleged a member of the royal family - not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh - made a racist comment about their unborn son.

The shock claims come after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took part in a 'tell-all' style interview with talkshow queen Oprah Winfrey.

The show first aired in the US on Sunday 7th March and ITV broadcast the interview last night for UK viewers.

It's understood that Palace officials prepared a statement on Monday but the Queen had not signed it off yet as she wanted more time to consider it.

Royal aides are said to have been locked in talks all day with input from members of the Royal family.

And the proposed statement comes after Labour shadow cabinet ministers Diane Abbott and Jonathan Ashworth called for a response from the monarchy. 

Mr Ashworth said, "The Palace needs to come forward with a response - I think people would expect them to make a response."

Meghan and Harry made some shock statements in their one hour and 25-minute interview as they talked about their decision to quit as working members of the royal family and move to Los Angeles to start a new life for themselves and their 22-month-old son Archie at their new family home in Santa Barbara.

Among the claims that shocked the world, and interviewer Oprah was Harry and Meghan's claims there were "concerns and conversations" about how "dark" their son's skin color would be.

Meghan also opened up on her mental health struggles since joining the royal family, and her openness has since been praised by the White House.

And the couple revealed how they had got married in secret in their back yard of their Windsor cottage where they exchanged vows with just them and the Archbishop of Canterbury, three days before their £32m fairytale wedding.

And Meghan also set the record straight on rumours she made Kate Middleton cry in lead up to the royal wedding, claiming it was Kate who made her cry.
