The X-Files Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have reunited in real life - three years after their popular revival series ended - sparking a frenzy among fans.
Gillian Anderson, whose latest on-screen appearance is playing Margaret Thatcher in popular Netflix drama The Crown, has taken to social media to share a snap from her personal life in which she sweetly reunites with her former on-screen love interest and FBI partner.
The photo shared by Gillian (aka Special Agent Dana Scully) shows her smiling at the camera while co-star David Duchovny (FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder) is seen popping his head in at the side. With just enough room for her dog Stella to get in on making a piece of reunion history, Gillian simply captioned the snap, "Stella made a new friend today. @davidduchovny."
And fans just could not get enough...

One confessed, 'THANK YOU NOW I'M CRYING' and other fans took to social media to share their shock, one asked, 'Am I alive? Is this real!?' another wrote, 'Bold of you to assume we can handle this,' and a third exclaimed, 'I’ve just died a thousand deaths from one photo!!' as the post started to go viral.
The X-Files Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny gained an army of fans after the show premiered in 1993 on FOX. But despite ending in 2002 after nine seasons, it was adapted twice for the big screen in 1998 and again in 2008 and had a two-season revival on FOX from 2016 to 2018, and fans have stayed loyal.
One fan declared the couple was still her 'One True Pairing' and wrote, 'I still love these two after all these years. Forever my OTP.'
Gillian recently hit headlines when she split from producer boyfriend Peter Morgan after four years together but she gave thanks to her ex- in her acceptance speech after winning a SAG Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series. And some fans even hoped The X-Files Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny would one day be together.

Meanwhile, David, 60, who is promoting his book Truly Like Lightening, which can be read on one of these best Kindles, recently revealed he almost turned down the chance to play agent Mulder. Speaking on podcast "Literally! With Rob Lowe", he said, "It's a good pilot but you're either going to see the aliens or [not]. I wasn't interested in conspiracy theories, and I was perfectly willing to just say, 'I'm going to have to pass on that pilot, because I said I'd do this other project.' "
And went on to admit how silly his hesitation over the role was. "It's scary to think back on, if you didn't open this door, or you took that left instead of that right. It's like, none of it had to happen. You talk about actors being dumb… well, that was me," he added.
