Britney Spears has announced that she is pregnant with her third child, prompting an outpouring of support from her fans—as well as one old celebrity friend.
The US pop star took to social media on Monday to share the exciting news, confirming that she is expecting a baby with her husband, Sam Asghari.
The update comes just a few months after Britney was freed from her conservatorship after nearly 14 years of living under its restrictive conditions.
In a lengthy post on her Instagram yesterday, the Toxic singer shared her experience of finding out she was pregnant after her recent vacation.
"I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼 … I thought “Geez … what happened to my stomach ???” My husband said “No you’re food pregnant silly 🤪 !!!” So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby," she told her 40.5m followers.
The announcement led to an outpouring of supportive comments from fans, many of whom congratulated the Grammy-winner on her pregnancy.
Britney also received warm wishes from A-list friends, including her former party pal, Paris Hilton. The hotel heiress and businesswoman commented, "Congratulations sis!! 🥳 I’m so excited for you!!😍 Love you!!!🥰" beneath the pop icon's post, much to the delight of the socialite's fans.
Britney, who recently announced she's writing a book, went on to reveal that she plans to stay inside more as her pregnancy continues to protect her privacy from the media.
"I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me...like they unfortunately already have," she explained.
It's likely that the 40-year-old is referring to her past two pregnancies with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who were born in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Britney, who lost custody of her children to their father, Kevin Federline, in 2007 was notoriously harassed by the paparazzi during this time period and ended up seeking treatment for mental health issues at a rehabilitation clinic.

Britney also revealed that she previously suffered from 'absolutely horrible' perinatal depression, a mental health condition used to describe the anxiety, stress, and depression that can occur from the beginning of pregnancy to one year after birth.
"Women didn’t talk about it back then," Britney added. "Some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret."
Britney's 28-year-old husband, Sam Asghari, also took to Instagram to publicly comment on the couple's news.
