Britney Spears is officially free from the conservatorship that has controlled her life for the last 13 years.

#FreeBritney is no longer just an online campaign or a war cry for fans of the pop princess, but a reality.  A judge in LA officially ruled on ending the legal agreement that has controlled the star's life since 2008.

This puts Britney back in charge of her estimated $60m estate and can make personal decisions herself for the first time in years, which comes after her engagement to Sam Asghari and news that fashion icon Donatella Versace will be designing a custom dress for her.

After the landmark court hearing in Los Angeles, the star described it as the "best day ever".

Sharing footage of #FreeBritney supporters outside the court house, she tweeted, "Good God I love my fans so much it's crazy !!! I think I'm gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen #FreedBritney.”

The ruling could be life changing for Britney who has spoken out publicly against both the conservatorship and the family members around her who’ve supported it.

Earlier in the year, Britney delivered a bombshell statement where she was allowed to give her side of the story for the first time, opening up about the “abusive” conservatorship and sharing shocking details like being forced to wear an IUD.

Delivering her ruling on Britney’s freedom, the judge added a caveat, specifying that an accountant serve as a temporary conservator should retain some powers but ultimately said the ruling on the legal arrangement is "effective today... thereby terminated".

All parties were in agreement on the conservatorship ending, including the star's father and mother, Lynne, who joined the hearing virtually.

A beloved star, celebrities were quick to celebrate the news.

Paris Hilton took time out of her wedding celebrations to tweet her happiness, calling Britney “the most resilient, kind and inspiring soul.”

Other celebrities who publicly supported the decision included Cher, Dionne Warwick and Donatella Versace.

The judge scheduled a follow-up hearing for January 19 to resolve outstanding administrative issues related to Britney's estate, but said the conservatorship was, in effect, immediately terminated.
