Sam has decided recently to break his silence about his relationship with the star. He told PEOPLE that he was supporting Britney and only wanted the best for her. “I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves,” said Sam.

He continued to say that he was looking forward to sharing a grounded future with the star, "I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together."

This statement comes just a few days after Hulu released a documentary that focused on Britney Spears and her treatment by the media.

The new documentary, ‘Framing Britney’ released on February 5, has resulted in fans rallying to support Britney after watching her difficult life on-screen. The program follows not only the treatment of Britney by the media but also her ongoing conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears.

Many fans are speaking out about this documentary and supporting Britney on social media. Paramore singer Hayley Williams said on Twitter, “the Framing Britney Spears doc holy fuck. No artist today would have to endure the literal torture that media/society/utter misogynists inflicted upon her. The mental health awareness conversation, culturally, could never be where it is without the awful price she has paid.”

The documentary has reignited the #FreeBritney movement on Twitter in an attempt to free the star from her conservatorship. Britney has been denied autonomy over her assets, estate, and business affairs by various judges over the years. Fans disagree with these decisions and say that she is fit to mind her own finances, but it is unclear whether this is the case.

Despite the discourse about Britney’s conservatorship, one element of the documentary has not been disputed by anyone. Watchers of the show agree that Britney’s treatment by the media was “disturbing.”

Farrah Moan from Ru Paul’s Drag Race wrote, “Watching a scared little 17-year-old girl backed into a corner by grown men asking about her virginity on national tv was a disturbing reminder of how toxic the media & society as a whole has been for so long. We’ve come a long way but there’s still a ways to go. #FramingBritney"

Britney has yet to comment on this documentary but did tease her fans on Instagram. The star announced in an Instagram video, "it's the moment we've all been waiting for..." she made a dramatic pause before she revealed that she was actually discussing the Super Bowl not 'Framing Britney.'

Sam also took to Instagram to defend Britney and call her father a "total dick." Sam wrote on his story, "Now it's important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way. In my opinion Jamie is a total dick. I won't be going into details because I've always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn't come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom."
