Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor has a lot to look forward to in life—including top-class mentorship and plush presents from a doting godmother, who just so happens to be an ultra-famous billionaire.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their first daughter on Sunday, confirming her safe delivery five months after they revealed their pregnancy to their Instagram followers last February. Lilibet or 'Lili' was born at the luxurious Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California at 11.40 am, weighing 7lb 11oz. Meghan, who is now expected to take a 20-week long parental leave with Prince Harry, has left the hospital and is currently "settling in" with the newborn at the couple's £14 million dollar Santa Barbara mansion.

While little information has been shared about the baby's godmother, it's been widely speculated that Oprah Winfrey has accepted the honorable role. The media mogul has remained close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ever since she was invited to their wedding in May 2018, and has more recently been involved in a number of high-profile projects with the US-based royals.
Her bombshell interview with Meghan and Harry, which drew in 17 million viewers in the US when it aired on March 7, was the first sign of her rapport with the couple. Oprah took a gentle approach to the highly-anticipated CBS special with her signature 'therapy couch' style, establishing the trust needed to encourage an honest conversation with the duke and duchess.
She teamed up with Harry shortly after for a docuseries on mental health, which premiered on Apple TV+ last month. The Me You Can't See explored the importance of mental health awareness and services, featuring candid interviews from several celebrities—including Harry and Oprah. If that wasn't enough to make the chatshow legend a shoo-in to be Lililbet's godmother, there's also a solid practical reason to give her the role—location.
Oprah lives down the road from Meghan and Harry's home in Montecito, making her the ideal candidate to provide hands-on guidance to their daughter throughout her childhood and adolescence. As for her experience, she's more than qualified for the job. She's already the godmother to the daughter of her best friend, Gayle King, and has reportedly played an active role in her life.
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor's godmother is rumored to be Oprah Winfrey
The exciting possibility was first hinted at by the duke and duchess's friend, Omid Scobie. The royal journalist dropped Oprah's name in a recent statement to the Sun, whilst explaining the reasons behind the couple's refusal to disclose her identity.
"If one of those godparents is Oprah—and I'm not saying that she is—then you can understand why perhaps they want to keep that to themselves because even Oprah sitting down to interview them was controversial enough in itself," he said.

Unfortunately for their fans, Meghan and Harry are unlikely to share the name of Lilibeth's godmother with the public. The couple has a history of being extremely private with their personal lives, offering far less information on their children than their royal counterparts have.
This shyness was demonstrated following the birth of their firstborn, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019. As well as keeping details of his delivery under wraps, they never confirmed the names of his godparents, even after they were exposed by a Times report the following January. Unlike his cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Archie is also rarely photographed by the media. The toddler lives a relatively low-key life with his mom and dad in California, thousands of miles away from the gaze of the British tabloid press in London.
