Sienna Miller's Barbour campaign is a perfect example of how the heritage trend should be styled
Autumn's most popular trend returns
A celebration of Britishness, the weather might be refusing to fully get its autumn groove on, but brands are certainly embracing cooler climes, and I, for one, can't wait to follow suit. Heritage styling remains one of the key autumn/winter fashion trends for 2026, and despite its popularity last year, I think it's an aesthetic that has really come into its own this season.
Barbour, a quintessentially British clothing brand, has one of the best executions of the cottage-core look, leaning into its statement barn jackets, waterproof outerwear, timeless tartans and, of course, wellington boots. The much-loved label fronted its autumn campaign with two other big British names, Sienna Miller and Idris Elba.
Kitted out in the label for the countryside shoot, a miscommunication sees the pair on a long, weather-battered journey to reunite in the rolling green hills, having encountered the best of British rural life along the way. The collection, a sumptuous mix of cosy yet contemporary knitwear, updated outerwear and kilt-inspired skirts, is the modern take on heritage that will give every outfit a directional finish.
Red is the colour of the season, but despite its festive nature, this bright, but neutral design will pep up many autumn outfits. The simple round neck and contrasting black buttons add an elegance to the design that will work with pretty much anything in your wardrobe.
Kilt skirts are big news right now, particularly styles, like this one that push the design boundaries. The longer style, with double buckle detailing, features two different plaid designs, adding a rock 'n' roll aesthetic to the look. Worn by Sienna in the campaign, this design is perfect for pairing with knee-high boots and a cosy knit for a smart casual outfit.
Taking a classic wellington boot, and fusing it with Chelsea boot appeal adds a contemporary spin to this shoe design. I love the stretch at the ankle for a comfortable and ergonomic fit, as well as the lug sole and gold buckle hardware for elevated design. Pairable with everything from dresses and skirts to your most comfortable jeans.
Another style worn by Sienna Miller in the brand's campaign, I love the cropped length of this design. The shorter hem makes it a great partner to higher waisted silhouettes, as it helps to draw you in a the middle. The classic fair isle-style design makes it wearable for many years to come, while the wool adds breathability.
A wool coat, in a classic and timeless buy and I love the vintage, heritage-styling on this design. The cape detailing adds retro glamour, while the elegant, neutral hue will ensure you can pull this coat out winter, after winter. The thigh-length hem makes styling over trousers, jeans, skirts or dresses an absolute breeze too.
Quarter-zip knits continue to have a place in our autumn outfit ideas. The burgundy hue taps into the autumn/winter fashion colour trends for 2026, while the hardware adds a sporty twist. I love how cropped all the sweater lengths are too, making pairing with trousers or skirts easy and allowing for great layering combinations.
The best cashmere jumpers are a winter essential and this design is ticking a lot of trend boxes thanks to its chocolate brown hue and funnel-necked design. The slouchy silhouette will help create a comfortable and cosy fit when the weather finally dips. Team with other neutrals, including white and cream jeans, to make them work for cooler climes.
This showerproof jacket combines smart with practical finish, and I love the beige, green and navy hues, which make it very polished indeed. The retro styling, and elegant finish, alongside the shorter hem makes this a great autumn layering piece that will dress up jeans or slip easily over dresses.
In a beautiful, rich khaki hue, this Barbour coat is so elegant. Showerproof for practicality, this smart silhouette will work throughout the year, when the weather calls. Despite its practical nature, it will also look elegant over party-ready styles too, adding light warmth and wet-weather endurance.
A tartan twist on the classic Wellington boot, the heritage trend is always worth investing in, as it is one we see return time and time again. Meaning your trend-worthy buys really do have plenty of shelf life. The darker plaid adds an elegance to the mud-ready style.
The best trench coats are often found in beige, camel, black or khaki, so I love that this plum-hued design takes a wardrobe staple and gives it a timely twist. Despite its runway-worthy appearance, merlot hues are no stranger to the winter spotlight, so you can shop this piece now and use it as your statement outerwear for years to come.
Argyle knits are absolutely everywhere this season, and this tartan take will give your autumn capsule wardrobe an immediate country-core update. The accent burgundy hue adds a further timely spin, while the V-neck delivers a preppy finish that makes it easy to layer over high neck knits or shirting.
Everyone might be losing it over barrel legged trousers, but you can't ever go wrong with a straight leg cut. This slimline silhouette is universally flattering and effortless to style. Try fuller sleeve shirting, or a similarly neat knit on top, but do let your tartan trousers steal a bit of the limelight.
Quilted jackets are a staple of the Barbour outerwear collection, and this reimagined iteration, celebrating the brand's tartan, is quite the statement piece. Finishing off with a classic corduroy collar. The barn jacket silhouette remains a key cut for the months ahead.
Wool is a fantastic autumn/winter option as the breathable fabric keeps you cosy, without overheating. I love a cape as an extra layer. You could try this design over a chunkier knit, when a coat feels too much, or even slipped on over a leather jacket to edge out its wear, when you need a warmer layer.
Available in three neutral colourways. It's easy to buy the fun stuff, the statement dresses, the bold outerwear. But sorting your wardrobe basics, well, that's a different ballgame all together. A selection of classic knitwear will help anchor autumn and winter looks, and ensure you can team up your jeans with something cosy, with ease.
The classic waxed jacket updated for 2026, this iteration has an almost bomber-like silhouette, taping into this season's must-have style. Keeping the classic cord collar, the pulleys at the hem allow you to adjust the fit, while the large silver hardware add a directional finish to the reworked style.
Autumn jackets are such a key refresher for the start of the season. A period that's so heavily focused on layering, the quilted design, cropped length and standout hardware used here is a real showstopper for the brand. Delving into the archives, reimagining the classics for more youthful look, it's one I'm happy to get on board with.
Authentically British, Sienna Miller and Idris Elba are the unflappable duo that front the latest Barbour campaign, which celebrates 130 years of the brand's tartans. Heritage-coded fashion is having a real moment with the style set right now, and I have to say, Barbour's execution of the look is one of my favourites.
It feels entirely honest, and intrinsically true to the brand that is already loved by celebrities and the Royals for its timeless, durable outerwear. I love that these principles have been taken and reimagined for a fashion-forward audience, all without scrimping on the design details that make Barbour worth the investment.
A great use of wool and cashmere throughout adds gravitas and weight to the winter edit that is already selling fast. While these are certainly investment styles, we've seen, thanks to the likes of The Traitors, the heritage trend has had a new lease of life and promises to be one of those always-on trends that you can wear year after year.
