Sophie, Countess of Wessex is reportedly a ‘tremendous source of comfort” to her mother-in-law the Queen in these difficult times and the pair have a “very special” bond.

The Queen will be needing the support of her loved ones like never before following the sad death of Prince Philip last week. Though the Queen has now undertaken her first royal duty since his death, losing her husband of over seven decades has left a “huge void” in her life.

He was still “fascinated” and “charmed” by her after all their years together and even reportedly asked his son Prince Charles to look after her prior to his death. Prince Charles has since spoken out in a touching tribute to his “dear papa”. Whilst his younger brother Prince Edward, who will inherit his father’s title of Duke of Edinburgh in the future, attended a service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints on Sunday.

Edward was accompanied by his daughter Lady Louise Windsor and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who reportedly shares a "very close" bond with her mother-in-law.

When asked how Her Majesty was coping, Sophie replied: “Thinking of others before herself, she’s amazing.”

Prince Edward echoed this, remarking, “as always” and describing his mother as “bearing up” before thanking everyone for the outpouring of support and wave of affection for his father.

It’s been suggested that Sophie and Edward are amongst the Queen’s favorite royal relatives. And now it seems that the bond between the Queen and Sophie goes even deeper and is like that of a mother and daughter.

According to The Mirror, a source has claimed: “The Countess has been a tremendous source of comfort to the Queen.

“The Queen is very practical in making sure everyone is okay and despite her tremendous grief at the passing she is no different. Sophie cherishes her relationship with the Queen and not only appreciates her guidance and wisdom throughout her own life, she is very protective of her.

“Their bond is very like a mother and daughter and the feeling of love and respect is quite mutual. It is very special.”

As a working royal Sophie is committed to her royal duties and it seems she is brilliant company for those around her.

“Sophie takes her role within the family incredibly seriously but is tremendous fun, which is probably why the Queen and her get on so well", the source claimed.

Sophie and Edward were amongst those who visited the Queen at Windsor Castle following the sad news of Prince Philip’s death.

Her Majesty will no doubt be incredibly touched by their support as she prepares for the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral on April 17.
