Royal Family's A-level and GSCE results - from straight A students to the surprising member who got a D

The Royal Family's A-level and GSCE results have been revealed and there is a big variety in the grades achieved by the royals

The Royal Family's A-level and GSCE results have been revealed and while some were clearly very interested in their studies, others were less academically inclined.

Prince Charles

Prince Charles achieved six O-Levels which are the equivalent exams to GCSEs. The Prince went to a boarding school named Gordonstoun and later received two A-Levels, one in History (B) and another in French (C) before he left the school in 1967.

Prince Charles also went to Cambridge University where he received a 2:2 in History in 1970. This made the Prince of Wales the first British heir apparent to earn a university degree.

Princess Anne

Princess Anne studied at Beneden School from 1963 to 1968. The Princess Royal left with six O-Levels and two A-Levels. Instead of going to university she became a senior royal at the age of 18 and began attending royal engagements. 

Prince Andrew

Like his older brother Prince Charles and his father Prince Philip, Prince Andrew studied at Gordonstoun. The Prince received three A-Levels in English, History, and Economics.

Prince Edward

Prince Edward also went to Gordonstoun and received the most O-Levels of all his siblings. Edward received nine O-Levels and then received three A-Levels in English (C), History (D), and Politics (D).

Despite these lower grades, he was still accepted into Cambridge University and like Prince Charles, he received a 2:2 in History.

Prince William

Prince William went to Eton College and left the school in 2000 with 12 GCSEs and three A-Levels. The Prince received A-Levels in Geography (A), Art (B) and Biology (C).

After taking a gap year he studied at St Andrews. He began by studying Art History and then changed to study Geography, and left with a 2:1 degree.

Kate Middleton

Catherine studied at Marlborough College and received 11 GCSEs and three A-Levels. The Duchess's A-Levels were in Maths (A), Art (A), and English (B). 

Like her husband Prince William, Catherine also studied at St Andrew's and also took a gap year. Kate finished her studies in 2005 and received a 2:1 in History of Art.

Prince Harry

Like his brother, Prince Harry also attended Eton College. The Duke of Sussex received 11 GCSEs and two A-Levels. The Prince received A-Levels in Art (B) and Geography (D). 

The Duke didn't go to university and after finishing school and taking a gap year to work in Australia on a cattle station, the Prince joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in May 2005.

Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice attended St George's School in Ascot where she achieved nine GCSEs including two A* grades. She then went on to get A-Levels in Drama (A), History (B), and Film Studies (B). The Princess suffers from dyslexia and delayed taking her GSCE exams by one year.

The Princess went on to study History and History of Ideas at Goldsmiths and graduated in 2011 with a 2:1. 

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie received nine GCSEs including two A*s, four As and three Bs. The Royal Family were so pleased with these grades that they announced these results publicly. 

The Princess then studied her A-Levels at Kate Middleton's old school Marlborough College. Eugenie received three A-Levels in Art (A), English Literature (A) and History of Art (B). Eugenie then studied at Newcastle University and graduated with a 2:1 in English Literature, History of Art, and Politics in 2012.
