Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will lose this royal family title when William becomes king
Prince William’s ascension to the throne reportedly means big changes
Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis may currently be high up in the line of succession, but an expert has suggested that when Prince William becomes king, they will lose a particular royal title.
- Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are currently fourth and fifth in the royal line of succession behind their older brother Prince George.
- It’s been suggested that when Prince William becomes king, his younger children will lose a royal family title.

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis follow their brother Prince George, father Prince William, and grandfather Prince Charles in the royal line of succession, in fourth and fifth respectively. And though the line of succession will change when their uncle Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome their second child, this won’t affect their place.
As children of the future king, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, all three children are currently known as Prince or Princess of Cambridge, in line with their father's title. Though their royal styles will apparently be very different when Prince Charles is crowned king, according to a royal expert.
But it’s when Prince William becomes king himself that his younger children’s royal titles will supposedly change quite dramatically. And it seems that whilst Prince George will find himself with a whole new title, his siblings will soon be missing out.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, expert Marlene Koenig has explained that when the Cambridges’ grandfather Prince William is crowned, they will each gain an additional aspect to their current titles.
"The first day Charles is king, the children will be Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Cornwall and Cambridge”, she revealed.

"Once their dad is Prince of Wales, they become George of Wales, Charlotte of Wales, Louis of Wales.
"Then when their dad is king, George will become Duke of Cornwall and then, of course, Prince of Wales”, she continued. "But Charlotte and Louis will be of nothing."

Why will Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis lose their royal family title?
Whilst this definitely sounds dramatic, Marlene disclosed to Express.co.uk how this is only natural given the way that royal titles work and that they will also lose the ‘the’ in their royal titles.
"The 'the' is only for the children of the sovereign”, she explained, before revealing how this royal custom affects the Queen’s own four children.

"When Charles is in Scotland, he is known as His Royal Highness, the Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay", she said.
"For example, Anne was Her Royal Highness The Princess Anne, until she was created Princess Royal.
"Same for Andrew and Edward until they got their peerages”, she declared.
So it seems that whilst Prince George will gain more titles as he grows up and prepares to take on the responsibilities of being king, his siblings’ lives will also change in a surprising way.
